Nissan; EVAP Leak at Vent Control Valve O-Ring Causes DTC P0456
impacted vehicles
2008-2022 Every Nissan model
Condition: A vehicle that has been applied to has the MIL on with DTC P0456 (EVAP VERY SML LEAK)
Cause: A loose fuel fill cap is not the root cause of the DTC P0456.
Where the vent control valve mounts to the canister, an EVAP leak has been found.
It is determined that the cause is the O-ring seal on the vent control valve.
Revision: Change the O-ring seal on the vent control valve (O-ring).
1. Replace the O-ring as part of the service procedure.
Refer to the relevant portion of the Electronic Service Manual (ESM) of the Applied Vehicle for vent control valve removal and installation to gain access to the O-ring.
- This O-ring is now sold separately under part number 16618-JF00A.
- When installation, do not lubricate the O-ring in any way.
- Seat each O-ring.
It won't be twisted or rolled over if you are fully seated. For more details on installation, see the images on pages 3 and 4.
Attention: Ensure that the surfaces the O-ring makes contact with are spotless.
- When installing, watch out for rolling or twisting of the O-ring.
2. Use a "smoke" leak detecting machine to look for leaks to confirm the repair is finished.
