When the AC button lamp on a 2000 Toyota Camry blinks, it's not a relay or fuse.

Okay this is a Camry 2000 and the ac is not working I just want to show you what happens when I turn on the ac so let's turn on the engine  there is my ac button right there and there's a green light on it when you hit the button so watch it goes on and it begins to blink that tells me

The ac is not working there's a fault in there and there's no cool air so now we're going to have to look under the hood and see what's going on okay the first thing you want to look at is the uh compressor clutch and if you look at it's right below the alternator on the passenger side if you look at that wheel on the bottom it's spinning but the hub is not turning So the clutch is not engaged and the next thing we're going to look at is the fuse box with the relay in there we're gonna check out the relays okay the fuse and relay boxes on the driver's side right next to the battery here and this is the fuse and relay box so we're gonna open this up we'll look at the relays and the relays Is the first thing they always tell you to look at when the ac goes out call the fuse so we're gonna open this up right now and this is basically three tabs one two and a third one over here we just have to open them up and lift up the cover all right under the cover there's a map of all the uh relays and fuses and whatnot what we're Interested is in the mg clutch which is right there that's this relay here and what they always tell you to do is just swap it out with another similar relay and in this case the best one to swap it out is with the horn relay which is right here they're both identical relays so what you would do is you pull it out just wiggle it comes right out you take the other one out You put it in here and you put this one the uh one for the compressor in here i already did that and it did not help to turn on my compressor so i know it's not the relay and the relay worked with the horn so we're not gonna do that for the purpose of the video but the relays are good and what we're going to do is troubleshoot the sensor on the compressor there's there's a sensor As there's a speed sensor which we want to test and see how that looks so let's go to the compressor on the passenger side front right below the alternator here you're gonna see the compressor and if you look at a different angle you're gonna see i don't know if you can see it but there's a there's a connector there right there We're gonna take that connector off and we're gonna test for the sensor that's on the compressor a speed sensor and see what it looks like from there all right see we can get that connector out there's a there's a tab in the front of the connector all you do is just push that a little and it will come right out i can't get my fingers in there all right All right now take the connector off put it aside and if you look down at the connector there are four pins let me see if i get this focus well there's four pins down here okay let me get another angle okay this is the best i can do with the angles so this is the connector that's on the uh compressor there's actually three pins in the end one two closer to the front of the engine Engine and there's one in the back the two in the front are for the uh speed sensor and that's what we're gonna test the ohms on so i'm gonna put two alligator clips on extend the wires out and take a reading okay i got the uh alligators clipped onto the uh sensor leads in that connector let me see you can get a better shot Right there they're both connected and i gotta extend it out right to here and i got it hooked up to my own meter and my own meter is reading 104 ohms 103 to 4 ohms it's it ranges from 99 to 105 that's that's a good reading so we know the sensor is good so now we have to test the other the other side of the connector okay now we have to test the uh Connector that's on the wire harness which is coming from right off this wire harness off the uh alternator as you can see there's three wires on here uh one is white white blue and one is brown those are the two wires that are going to the sensor and it's actually connected to These two pins on right by the tab on the top right here so we're going to be testing these two uh pins here the first thing we're going to do is test for the blue white which is actually going to the computer the way we do that is we're going to put one uh we're going to test it to the ground so we're going to connect one end of the ohm meter to the ground and we're going to test the pin okay i got one end of my ohm meter Connected to the ground which i went right back to the battery i used the alligator clipped and i connected it right back to the battery ground right here and the other end we're going to test the uh sensor wire to the back to the computer so let's see what that looks like here is the meter coming in the meter okay and the blue white wire it goes into This pin right here and i put that on there i don't know you can see but my meat is reading 10 ohms and that's what that's a good reading so this wire is good to the computer and let me show you right there let me get it closer all right this is my own reading of the blue white wire which is the uh top pin next to the tab here on the left it should be 10 ohms and let's let's see what it is oh there it goes i got 10 ohms so we know this blue white wire is good to the computer in the car so next we're going to test the brown wire which is right here and that's the ground and we should see a zero reading i hope and it looks like i'm not getting any reading so a ground would normally look like this let me Ground my lead here you can see like point one or point zero point two and there's no reading in this pin here so it looks like our brown wire is not the ground or it's missing a ground so let's check the wire now actually i knew the ground was bad because when i took off the connector the brown wire is already disconnected but for the purpose of the video i wanted to show you what to test for so That's why i continue it but if you test the ground wire you should get a 0 or 0.5 or something like that you can see okay it's a 0.6 so we know it's good ground water and we just have to figure out how to connect the back into this pin in the connector so let me fuss with the connector a little bit and we'll see What we can do get this pin out but uh i tried taking a little plug back here out and it looks like it's not that easy so i don't want to break the connector and what i'm going to do is splice of wire to this brown wire right here and i'm going to feed it to the front through this connector to the side here and i'm going to tap the wire in there and that's what i'm going to do for now Until i figure out this connector all right i use this uh drop cloth here so i can work on this connector a little easier and what you can see is i extended the brown wire i actually soldered a red wire to this and what we're going to do is we're going to wrap this red wire to the side of this release tab through this channel here and we're gonna feed it into this Pin here let me get that done i'll show you all right i finished the connector as you can see the brown wire is spliced in with the red wire and i taped it up and i taped it around the wires here and i routed it to the right of this release tab and it's tied down with the green just the green wire i just Wrapped it around the top hold it in place and you can see where the red wire is just right into that pin right there so this is done we're going to plug it in and we're gonna test for the ac let's put this connector back on just feed it down there and i think i can slip it in with my two fingers Actually oh there goes i pushed it in i felt the tap snap so it's locked in now let's get in the car and test the ac let's test the ac now there's the ac button turn it on green light is on and before it was blinking now it's not and that's normal so and guess what we have ac and light is still steady green so The ac is fixed now let's see if the clutch is engaged and there it is it's spinning the clutch is engaged the ac is fixed in the future i will be doing a valve cover gasket change on this camry so if you're interested just hit my subscribe button and you'll be notified when it's released thank you hope you enjoyed this video i appreciate if you could subscribe to My channel and a thumbs up would be great thank
